Ok, it is finally ready for you to lay eyes on - SplashID 4 for Mac & Palm.

It has all the feature upgrades of SplashID 4 on Windows:

- 2 New views: Panel View and Tree View
- Enhanced security - auto lockout after 10 failed attempts, password
strength selector, and password hint option
- Web Auto Fill - one click to open a website on the desktop and login
automatically! (Safari only)
- Synchronize multiple SplashID databases (with other version 4 database
files only)
- Enhanced Lookup feature instantly displays relevant results as you type
- Email and share securely encrypted SplashID files to other users
- Toolbars give you button features where they are needed the most
- Updated icon set with enhanced high resolution graphics

Download:

http://splashdata.com/Downloads/beta/SplashID.4b.dmg

SplashID 4 Desktop will NOT pick up your SplashID 3 Palm database, but you
should back up to be safe:

File > Backup

Once you have finished running the installer, launch SplashID from the
Applications folder. It will no longer be in a sub-folder.

Since the Palm application WILL upgrade your database on the handheld, you
will probably want to set the SplashID conduit to handheld overwrites
desktop for the first sync after running it on the handheld.

Please note that the User Guide has not been updated yet, so you can look at
the Windows User Guide for guidance if needed:

Let us know what you think, any feedback will be helpful.

Thanks,

After a quick glance at this, one thing I saw was on the Desktop, in
the panel view, the details of the first record is switched with
another record. For example, in Bank Accounts, the first record
'Bank1' displays the details of 'Bank3' and vice versa. Switching to
the list view or tree view, the records show the correct details. And
it shows correctly on the Palm.

The data was upgraded from version 3 on the Palm and then the SplashID
conduit was set to handheld overwrites desktop as suggested below.

I'm using a Palm TX and a G5 running 10.4.11.

Hi TD,

I cannot reproduce that behavior. Does it continue to happen or was that
just when you first ran the SplashID desktop?

Justin,

It still happens consistently. Restarted SplashID Desktop, restarted
the machine, same thing.

I've synced several times and that seems to be working fine, but now
in one category, which has 11 items, every item shows the wrong
description.

It doesn't seem to happen with data using a different user that I
enter in the desktop. So perhaps somehow the data was corrupted or
something during the upgrade or first sync to make this happen.

TD,

I myself am seeing this issue now, and I have reported it to the developers.

I finally gave this beta a try as well:

1. I exported my old records in vID file format with password, then imported them to version
4. It worked, but the content of all comments fields did not get imported. All comment fields
are empty. The rest of the records transferred ok.

2. To get a clean instal, I deleted the content of the Documents/Splash ID folder. After this
SplashID does not start anymore, it crashes. Even a new installation did not help. I think the
program should be able to create the missing folders itself, rather than crashing.

Martin

Hi Martin,

1. What are the comment fields you are referring to? Do you mean the custom
field labels?

Was/is your data intact on the handheld? If so, set the SplashID conduit to
handheld overwrites desktop for one sync.

To do this:
1. Launch Palm Desktop and choose Conduit Settings from the Hotsync Menu.
2. A list of conduits will appear.
3. Double-click the SplashID conduit and choose Handheld overwrites
Macintosh, then click OK.
4. Perform a hotsync. This will move all the data (and password) from the
handheld to the Macintosh.

2. If you delete the database, you may also need to delete the preferences:

Home\Library\Preferences\com.SplashData.SplashID Desktop.plist

Hi,

SplashPhoto seems not to be actively updated since quite some time. I'm
just missing support for progressive JPEGs as I often get them and can't
convert them while on the go.

This can't be such a hard feature to implement...

Hi Justin,

sorry, I was referring to the "Note" field for each record. All notes from version 3 do not
get imported into SplashID Desktop version 4. I used the vID file format for export and
import.

I do not want to try the handheld overwrites desktop scenario yet, because SplashID 4 is
still beta for Mac.

Deleting the preferences file helped, the desktop program is not crashing anymore.

Thanks.

Martin

I store a lot of relevant data in my notes field, until this is
fixed, I'll stick with v3. Thanks for the notice Martin. I'm soon
moving to Leopard, and SplashID is one of the programs I'll need
working fully before I do.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for finding this. I have reported it to the dev team.

Doing a handheld overwrites desktop will work, even though it is in beta. It
can't hurt the handheld data anyhow.

Compared with SplashMoney desktop, I'm happy with SpID Desktop 4.0 Mac
beta. There are some duplicates one the record is modified on the Desktop
but that is not very hard to fix manually. (The database is much simpler
than SpMoney of course).

One wish is some consistency for the desktop programs:

- The name of the apps (preferrably just 'SplashID.app' instead of 'SplashID
Desktop.app', the desktop for SplashMoney is called
'SplashMondy.app'. SplashShopper is currently not a bundle at all.

- Where the databases are saved. Maybe in ~/Documents/Palm/SplashData?
Currently SpMn database is '~/Documents/SplashMoney Desktop', SpId
database is '~/Documents/SplashID', and the SpPhoto and SpShopper are in
~/Documents/Palm/Users/xxx/. That is very confusing and complicates
backups. By the way, I also run Splash apps under Windows with Parallels
and they save their files in ~/Documents/SplashData'.

Can the Windows and Mac apps read the same database file?

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your feedback.

The reason the SplashMoney data is stored in a directory called "SplashMoney
Desktop" vs. "SplashMoney" is because the latter is already used by the
conduit as the default location for transfer of files using the old
import/export functionality.

Windows and Mac versions CANNOT read the same database file.
